Make sure you have your say on Kinneil Estate! It’s hoped as many people as possible will give Falkirk Council their views – a new consultation closes on 25 August.
The Council are inviting feedback on plans to spend an additional £150k which they have successfully bid for from a specific central government funding stream.
The consultation is short and limited in scope – it only takes a few minutes. Only certain types of capital expenditure qualify under this funding, which has to be spent by the end of March 2025, and this helps to explain the items shortlisted. Nevertheless it is £150k which would otherwise not be available for Kinneil at this time.

Of the options set out, the Friends of Kinneil consider that the access infrastructure (car parks, driveway, paths, signage) should probably be the main and most useful priority for this particular funding, rather than the biodiversity element, especially since there are various other funds available for the latter, and also several other recent initiatives under that heading have already been done.
There are of course many other aspects at Kinneil which deserve long-overdue investment – the Friends have made their views clear over many years, and continue to do so.
On improving play facilities, and the reasons why these are not covered in this consultation, the Council have indicated separately that ‘the play area is due to be upgraded in 2025/26 with Scottish Government Play Renewal Funding’. Also, it is expected that enhancements by park managers to the ‘Hidden Heritage’ Trail which the public voted on in 2021 will at last be delivered soon, again under a separate funding stream.
On other facilities – museum, house, toilets, food & drink etc – discussions remain very much live, but not for this particular funding, and will proceed into the review of the overall Kinneil Masterplan by the Council, Historic Environment Scotland and others which is due to begin in September.
In the meantime, tell the Council all your comments and suggestions! The consultation includes open questions at the end.
