Visit Kinneil House this Saturday, 1 July – plus free ‘Coronation Crafting’ activity

Visitors to Bo’ness who are staying with family for the Fair, or coming to view the Arches around the town, have an added treat this year: Kinneil House will be open this Saturday, 1 July, for guided tours of the interiors, including the renowned painted rooms, at 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Limited availability for tours – book tickets up to 15 minutes before each stated tour time via the Historic Environment Scotland web page for Kinneil House.

Alternatively – or in addition – did you miss our free ‘Coronation Crafting’ for children and families at Kinneil House last week? There’s another chance to enjoy the activity this Saturday, 1 July, between 12.30pm and 3.30 pm inside the free Kinneil Museum, alongside the opening of Kinneil House that day. Children can make their very own crown to celebrate the recent Coronation of King Charles III, and the Coronation on 30 June of Bo’ness Fair Queen Elect, Lexi Scotland.

Celebrate the spirit of the Bo’ness Fair by making your own crafty crown, like this one, at Kinneil Museum

Everything needed to make a sparkling crown will be provided free by the Friends of Kinneil and Historic Environment Scotland. Volunteers from the Friends will demonstrate and support the making of these crafty crowns in Kinneil Museum.

The activity is suitable for children aged 5 and above, and will be available on a first come, first served basis (no booking is needed for the activity, just turn up) between 12.30 pm and 3.30 pm. So watch out this Saturday for regal young people modelling their gorgeously gleaming crowns and tiaras! Families are advised to bring any refreshments of their own, and also to check the Friends of Kinneil Facebook page before arrival, in case of any last-minute cancellation or changes.

Please note that this special activity as part of the beginning of the Bo’ness Fair Week is in place of the usual Saturday guided outdoor history walk provided by the Friends.

Falkirk Council’s Kinneil Museum will be open free as usual until 4pm, and Kinneil Estate also has great walks, wildlife and play areas for families who would like to make a day of their visit.
