Children, young people and families can take part in some free ‘Coronation Crafting’ at Kinneil House this Saturday, 24 June, between 10.30am and 2 pm alongside Historic Environment Scotland’s opening of the house that day. They can make their very own crown to celebrate the recent Coronation of King Charles III, and the upcoming Coronation on 30 June of Bo’ness Fair Queen Elect, Lexi Scotland.

Everything needed to make a sparkling crown will be provided free by the Friends of Kinneil and Historic Environment Scotland. Volunteers from the Friends will demonstrate and support the making of these crafty crowns in a small marquee in front of the magnificent 16th/17th-Century mansion.
The activity is suitable for children aged 5 and above, and will be available on a first come, first served basis (no booking is needed for the activity, just turn up) between 10.30 am and 2 pm. Families are advised to bring any refreshments of their own, and also to check the Friends of Kinneil Facebook page before arrival, in case of any last-minute cancellation or changes due to adverse weather or other factors.
Please note that this special activity as part of the beginning of the Bo’ness Fair Week is in place of the usual Saturday guided outdoor history walk provided by the Friends.
Kinneil House will also be open once again on Saturday for guided tours of the interiors, including the renowned painted rooms, at 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Limited availability for tours – book tickets up to 15 minutes before each stated tour time via the Historic Environment Scotland web page for Kinneil House.
Falkirk Council’s Kinneil Museum will also be open free as usual until 4pm, and Kinneil Estate has great walks, wildlife and play areas for families who would like to make a day of their visit. In the walled garden next to Kinneil House, there will also be a ‘Summer Social’ event from 1-4pm being run by Sustainable Thinking Scotland: visit their Facebook page for more details and enquiries about that event.
So watch out this Saturday for regal young people modelling their gorgeously gleaming crowns and tiaras!
*NOTE: Bo’ness traffic will be busier than usual this Saturday, with some main road closures, due to a large parade taking place. Please allow extra time for your journeys and follow any diversions in place, or walk/cycle to the estate*.
